The following is a case study done under the MoveCorporate program.

CanvasPop // 35 Employees

The team at CanvasPop does more than just print photos on canvas. They help people create their own personalized art in the most innovative, simple and fun way possible. However they were also concerned about the health and overall well being of their staff. To encourage employees to become the best version of themselves they requested development of a wellness program that would cultivate an environment of success through three main pillars:
  • Movement
  • Proper desk seating and working setup
  • Company Culture

THE PROBLEM

We knew the MoveCorporate program would be ideal for the team at CanvasPop. But we had a few problems, well not problems so much as concerns expressed by CanvasPop.

COST

This is a common concern many clients express and we understand the investment is significant. But on the flip side we also believe investing in your staff with a program of this quality returns the value to the employer multiple times over. Do you really think Google has an amazing working environment just because they are nice?

SETUP

It can feel overwhelming when you start a program like this one. We know you’re already busy so we handle everything including the setup.

OUTSIDE PROGRAM ACTIVITES

Our main focus with MoveCorporate is to be able to bring our entire program to the department we are working with. We understand how busy individuals are and how adding a wellness program to their existing schedules can be challenging. We pride ourselves in molding to fit the schedule of the department we are working with and with the leadership, encouraging staff to participate in all programs in house, versus adding more to their plate. In addition to this, we understand how costly programs can be, and the pay difference between employees, our approach focuses on inclusivity no matter what your wedge and fitness level.

BEHAVIOURAL CHANGES

Many departments would like to see outcome results, in changes in behaviour of the employees both inside and outside the office. The following illustrates the behavioural changes we saw in the CanvasPop team during and after the MoveCorporate program.

THE SOLUTION

Nutrition and exercise were knew were important. But we decided the best way to deliver amazing results to CanvasPop was to also focus the program around flexibility, mobility (back-shoulder-hip), core strengthening and glute activation.

For a team of workers who sit long hours at desks we knew this will make an incredible impact. In addition, to supplement the education sessions we implemented monthly movement sessions and 1 hour mobility sessions focusing on the following:

  • Shoulder mobility
  • Hip mobility
  • Core strengthening
  • Glute activation

THE RESULTS

The results by the end of the program were incredible:

  • Several employees reported feeling much more confident (positive self-image)
  • Staff loved coming to work because of the new environment that was created (healthy atmosphere)
  • Productivity increased in all departments
  • Healthy lunches started being brought to work
  • Staff felt they were part of a positive change

Interesting there was a 100% decrease in chronic pain at desks. When you consider many sit at desks for long hours it makes a lot of sense.

At the start of the program over 50% of employees where in chronic pain with either stiffness or tightness.

Those same participants noted the pain was gone or greatly decreased after the first movement module. It’s not magic, just science.

WHY IT WORKED

First and most importantly, the entire company from management to mail room committed 100% and attended all sessions. If the ownership of the business does not buy in then you cannot expect your staff to either.

The company leadership was active and attended each module and facilitated a healthy work environment, plus they:

  • Recommended equipment for all staff was purchased as per recommendation from practitioners to facilitate better desk and seating health
  • healthy snacks were provided in office as per recommendation from practitioners
  • Contributed to open dialogue during question and answer period

Staff were encouraged to slow down when needed and implement more mindful movement practices along with simple daily wellness habits like:

  • A 5 minute meditation practice
  • Movement sessions that cultivate joy vs moving in ways that are currently trending
  • Beginning a workout regime
  • Positive self talk – transforming mental chatter
